It has been a little while since my last post, and I wanted to take the time to update you on some of the many things we have been learning!
It has been very exciting to see your children grow so much in math in the last 90 days of school! The kids are introduced to a variety of strategies to be able to add and subtract quickly and efficiently. Some of these strategies include using a 120 chart, an open number line, drawing base ten blocks, and breaking the numbers apart.
A big hit it math this week was learning about some 2-D and 3-D shapes. We used the geoboards to make shapes and used dot paper to draw a cube.
We also have been spending some time practicing our money skills. We played a math game before vacation to practice counting coins called, “Build a Snowman.” It was a hit!
With MLK day last Monday, we spent some time learning about the importance of Martin Luther King Jr and his message. The students were very knowledgeable about MLK and some of the issues the world faces today. I asked each student to think about a dream they have for our world today. Here are some of the things they said.
